About us

Mechanical face seals from Federal-Mogul Powertrain’s GOETZE® brand are found wherever the going gets really tough: in heavy technical equipment such as construction machinery, conveyors, mining machinery, concrete and cement mixers, tunnel boring and agricultural equipment.

Our face seals ensure lubricant retention within wheel hubs and axles, track rollers, transmissions and many more components.

We offer support to our customers all over the world, whatever harsh conditions they face and covering a wide range of components for heavy technical equipment: seals for wheel hubs and axles, drives, roller support bearings and roller guide bearings of tracked vehicles, gearboxes and many other axle connections. Industries provided for include construction, mining, tunneling and agriculture.

Our portfolio of designs and advanced materials covers applications including some of the biggest equipment around: we manufacture face seals with a diameter of up to 1,425 mm.

Products and services

For decades, GOETZE® mechanical face seals have been utilized with outstanding success in transmissions, pumps, axles and drive mechanics.

The special GOETZE® cast iron materials have provided extraordinary wear-resistant solutions for a variety of demanding applications, such as construction machinery, agricultural equipment, mining machinery, drive mechanics for tracked vehicles and other applications.

Continued technological advances in GOETZE® sealing solutions guarantee our customers long term durability, service-life and maximum productivity for their equipment.

Different operating requirements require different designs. The company's product development and application technology are bundled into one unit to provide the best possible support for customers and to offer the best individual solution - whether to adapt an existing product or to develop a new design. Based on many years of experience and expertise, GOETZE® has developed a robust analysis tool for the design of face seals.

Mechanical Face Seal O-Ring Style

Mechanical Face Seal O-Ring Style

The most common design of mechanical face seals is the o-ring design. This design consists of two symmetrically tapered seal rings and two o-rings. The o-ring style has two versions, the 76.90H which has a ground profile, and the 76.97 which has an as-cast profile. In general, both versions are completely interchangeable.

Mechanical Face Seal Square Bore Style

Mechanical Face Seal Square Bore Style

Type 76.95 requires slightly less installation space in the axial direction than the standard o-ring style designs. The geometry of the housing contour is easier to manufacture, and the seal installation does not require an installation tool. In comparison to the o-ring face seals, the spring characteristic of the trapezoid elastomer parts is usually stiffer.
